Workforce and Higher Education

Camden County is a community focused on education, with strong links to the military. In fact, with seven military bases in Georgia and the Naval Air Station in Jacksonville, FL, the region leads the nation in the number of military officers and senior enlisted staff transitioning to the civilian job market. The Naval Submarine Base at Kings Bay—the only naval base in Georgia—alone delivers 840  nuclear submarine officers and technical staff to the civilian workforce every year, most of whom prefer to stay in Camden County.

More than 2,000 spouses of Navy Submarine Force service personnel, in addition to all the other military spouses in the area, bring their own skill sets with them, especially advanced business services.

There are 20,000 students attending local and regional universities and colleges, including the College of Coastal Georgia and Coastal Pines Technical College. The county’s proximity to Jacksonville, home of the University of North Florida, Florida State College at Jacksonville, and the Naval Air Station, offers a similarly positioned workforce.

This significant pool of eligible, trained candidates is able to handle the most sophisticated technical equipment, production machinery and processes.
