Camden County JDA Board Supports Conservation Grant Application and Gilman Site Clearing

At its September 24, 2026, meeting, the Camden County Joint Development Authority Board discussed two proposals concerning the Gilman property: protecting its natural areas and improving the appearance of land being marketed for development.

The Board unanimously approved a letter supporting a Georgia Outdoor Stewardship Grant application by the Georgia Alabama Land Trust. The proposed grant would help purchase a conservation easement to protect the rookery and surrounding wetlands on the Gilman site. The letter allows the application process to begin; the Authority is not required to accept a grant if its conditions do not align with the Authority’s plans for the property.

The Board also discussed clearing overgrown land outside the property’s fence, toward Meeting and Norris Streets. Staff said the work would improve the site’s appearance for residents and prospective developers. The Board unanimously approved the clearing estimate, with payments to the contractor made weekly as work progresses.

During its regular business, the Board received staff reports and approved the August financial reports. It also approved the August 27 meeting minutes, with one Board member abstaining.

The meeting began at 9:00 a.m. and adjourned at 9:38 a.m.
